Jollyes, the award-winning UK pet supermarket, has cut 3 000 prices in over 100 shops this week in a major strategic move, the company said in a press release. ‘With this move, we are reversing the trend of retailers restricting savings to their loyalty card members. This is more than two thirds of all 4 500 core items that Jollyes stocks in a typical shop.
The decision is part of a multi-million pound investment that means the lower price displayed on the shelf is the price customers pay. At a time when household budgets are being squeezed by energy bills and mortgage payments, ‘we are simplifying our prices so that customers no longer need to be a member to get the value that pet owners demand,’ explained chief executive Joe Wykes.
By 2024, 14 new stores will have opened. New locations will open in Pontefract (West Yorkshire) and Chichester (West Sussex) in March, followed by new stores in Swansea (Glamorgan) and Chesterfield (Derbyshire) in the first half of the year and the relocation of one of the oldest shops in Perth to brand new premises in the city.
Plans for 2025 also include extensions and refurbishments of existing stores in Selby (North Yorkshire), Waterlooville (Hampshire), Sheffield (South Yorkshire), Harlow (Essex) and Keighley (West Yorkshire). Selby, Sheffield, Harlow and Keighley are to receive new community veterinary clinic facilities and the raw frozen pet food departments in Waterlooville, Selby, Sheffield and Keighley will be refurbished or extended. Jollyes is also planning to roll out its innovative ‘Wash & Go’ dog wash cubicles, which give dirty puppies a full clean, to five more shops.
New benefits are also being introduced for the 1 250 staff to attract the best talent to join the teams: Jollyes colleagues will be entitled to an extended paid maternity leave of six months (up from six weeks), while paid paternity leave will double from two to four weeks.
